Class Three

Proloquo2go

Today's class presented a working opportunity to allow us to further explore Proloquo2go. The app itself is very user friendly and allows the teacher to preplan for an activity well in advance. I really like how the teacher has to think about all aspects of the students learning and almost make predictions as to where you see the student going. This really makes the teacher gain a stronger connection to the students individual needs. Creating folders for specific tasks really helps the student to better organize their thoughts and communicate in a more efficient manner as opposed to struggling to connect their thoughts to their "voice". Maybe it is because I am new to Proloquo2go, but I did find it time consuming to prepare. I myself would spend a lot of time prepping the program for students for each activity. I wonder would other teachers be willing to put this time into a program for each task? I understand its importance and value its benefits, but I think about the school year and how bogged down we get and wonder would it be underused? Do we have to prep this extensively for each task? You want the tool to be utilized and a benefit to students, therefore putting in half the effort won't work!  We don't remove the stairs from students and expect them to get to the second floor so why would we limit a child's communication by not providing them with the tools they require?

"Working myself out of a job!"

I love this quote! Teachers can see their work in action, see the changes they affect, and in doing so they witness first hand students goals coming within reach. We want our students to grow and become lifelong learners who are positive members of society. By doing this we are no longer needed and with the advancements in technology this goal is becoming more and more attainable. Students need to outgrow their need for you to survive/grow and flourish in todays world. I think teachers are under appreciated and that they are not always recognized for their amazing contributions, but it is the successes of our students they make us stop and say "We did it!" I love watching and sharing the Ted Talk, Every Kid Needs a Champion by Rita Pierson because it truly magnifies the greatness of teachers. Please watch and enjoy :)

  1. I agree joy, teachers are WAY under appreciated! You have the most important job in a child's life other than the parents role. You all make such a difference and I am in awe of every single one of you😄

  2. I understood the Proloque2go was not a teaching or learning device but a tool to improve lives in general. If so I hope the parents would be responsible for some "programming" and our exercise today was not demonstrative of a daily activity. If not, you are completely correct and it would be another great idea that few have the time to use.
